Impact & Financials
Transparency you can hold us to.
Every donor and grantmaker deserves a clear picture of where money goes. This page will grow as VAF ships programs and closes its first fiscal year.
2026 — Our founding year
VAF was formed on August 18, 2026 as a California nonprofit public benefit corporation. Our founding priorities are:
- Complete IRS 501(c)(3) application and California FTB 3500A exemption
- Adopt bylaws, conflict-of-interest policy, and gift acceptance policy
- Launch the first three Learn, Play, and Steward programs
- Publish the first annual impact report and financials
Governance documents
- Articles of Incorporation — filed August 18, 2026 (Entity No. B20260362988)
- Statement of Information (SI-100) — filed August 18, 2026 · next due 2028
- Bylaws — adopted 2026 (available on request)
- Conflict of Interest Policy — adopted 2026 (available on request)
- IRS Form 1023 / 1023-EZ — pending review
- California FTB Form 3500A — filed following IRS determination
- Charitable Trust Registration (AG Form CT-1) — filed within 30 days of first assets received
Annual filings we commit to publishing
- IRS Form 990-N or 990-EZ (federal)
- California FTB Form 199 (state exempt organizations)
- California Attorney General Form RRF-1 (charitable registration renewal)
- Annual impact report — served families, program hours, service-day counts, gear placed
Where dollars go
Our founding budget model is designed to keep program expense above 85% of total spending. Because the board serves as volunteers and we operate without paid staff, overhead is limited to:
- Insurance (general liability, D&O)
- State and federal filing fees
- Payment processing fees
- Website and email hosting
